Mio Akiyama of K-On! (Good Smile Company)

April 11th, 2010 12 Commented

After putting up a humble post on Yui Hirasawa nendoroid, I thought it’d be a good idea for me to follow up on the rest of the K-On! nendoroids since it’s my current favorite Anime. Alright, I admit that I’ve not watched a lot of Anime. It’s just quite difficult to find time lately.

I acquired Mio Akiyama nendoroid a couple of months back before Yui. She comes with three different facial expressions, her cheerful face, her crying face, as well as the expression she made while trying her best not to show her embarrassment. It also includes two additional pairs of arms and an extra leg. Of course, her beloved left handed bass guitar and amplifier are included too. She is approximately 100mm tall.

It was a rainy day and I took Mio out to prepare this post. Let’s start with an introduction of Mio.

Mio: “はじめまして。名前わ秋山澪です。”

I like this facial expression of hers. Isn’t she kawaii?

softz: “So, what are we doing today?”

Mio went into deep thought, pondering what to do on this rainy day.

Another cute serious face of hers shown. Alright, I admit that I’m biased. She is my favorite character in K-On!. But, you should agree with me that Mio is cute and cool. Even the K-On! members describe her as Moe Moe Kyun in one of the episode.

Mio is a shy girl who plays a left-handed, 3-Color Sunburst Fender Jazz Bass with a tortoiseshell pick-guard. She had intended to join the literary club, but was forced into the light music club by her childhood friend, Ritsu who is also the club’s president and drummer.

Mio gets excellent grades in school. She is also mature and strict sometimes. However, she can get embarrassed easily, and is often subject to teasing from Ritsu and Sawako, their club adviser.

softz: “How about teaching me how to play the bass?”

Mio: “Sure thing. Get me my bass and amplifier. I’ll play Light and Fluffy Time (ふわふわ時間).”

softz: “Cool! I love that song. Give me a minute, I’ll get the bass and amplifier over.”

Kabbooommm!! (It’s not an explosion.) The thunder roars loudly and a sudden black-out.

Oh no! Mio is scared. Did you know that Mio is known to be a scaredy cat? She is bad with listening to stories involving macabre experiences, and cowers whenever something gross is brought up.

I better fix the switch and get the lights up again before Mio gets too frighten. Also, I’ve got to find her bass and amplifier.

This is the bass used by Mio nendo. I consider the quality of the bass to be mediocre. It doesn’t have any strings. The bass can look nicer if the strings are sculpted too.

The amplifier is slightly bigger than that of Yui’s. To me, it definitely looks better than Yui’s too.

Now, Mio feels much more relax after the lights are up again. I guess she is all prepared now.

softz: “Mio-chan, is everything okay?”

Mio: “Hmmm. OK.”

Due to Mio’s shy nature, she chosed the bass because it’s not the center of attention in the band, unlike the guitarist. In the club, Mio is more technical when it comes to music, and Yui often comes to her when she is in need of more guitar tutorials.

Actually, I enjoy listening to Mio as lead vocal compared to Yui. In the Anime, there are several songs sang by Mio due to Yui’s forgetful nature. I particularly like The Light and Fluffy Time and Don’t Say ‘Lazy’.

Oh ya. Due to an unexpected accident in one of their live performances (and partly due to her attractive appearances), Mio acquired a huge amount of popularity, and even a fan club for her is formed (much to her dismay considering the circumstances surrounding it), whose founding member is the former student council president who also stalks Mio.

I’ve not watched the 2nd season of K-On! yet. I hope to watch it soon though. Also, I hope that I can post about Ritsu nendo soon too. :)

Haha, I picked this nendoroid up on my last trip to Japan. She is definitely a cutie and she is mine and Tomoyo’s favorite character in K-On. I love how she gets embarrassed easily and scared as well. Almost tsundere but needs more yelling lol. The pics look nice, the glow effect from what I assume is natural light gives it a nice effect.

I really like your photos. Mios’ scared face looks cute. I’m glad her bass guitar didn’t fall apart like poor Yuis’ guitar did.

I loved the leafy floral background you used for this photoshoot. It works especially well in the blackout shots. The dried leaves set quite a creepy atmosphere in that lighting, and Mio’s cute expression fits the setting perfectly.
Anyway, Nendo Mio is super cute. ^ ^

    scared mio is cute!
you must take care of her well

  9. LOL very nice write up! Out of the K-ON! figures, I think Mio is my favourite, appearance wise anyway. I haven’t seen the series yet, but I think I should.

These nendoroids are cute, some people hate them, but I think they’re alright. :P So far I only have one of Miku though, might get some more later on.
